We live above a studio unit - double bed, flat screen TV, private bath, kitchenette (tea kettle, Keurig coffee maker, toaster oven, microwave, Instapot, hotplate, crockpot, refrigerator, sink), large walk-in closet, access to shared laundry, with private entry from a gated courtyard with BBQ grill. Our location is very walkable: close to Saturday Farmers' Market, Lake Merritt, shops, restaurants, gyms, groceries (Trader Joe's), movie theater, bars, and public transportation. Oakland is a very vibrant, inclusive, and diverse city just 7 miles from San Francisco and 5 miles from Berkeley with many transportation options to get you there. We are primarily English speakers (I speak some Spanish and a little bit of French) but I will try my best! We also have a tenant with a dog who uses the courtyard to access her fenced cottage in the back of the property. We have a dog too. Supplies for coffee/tea and breakfast (oatmeal/cereal, fruit, yogurt) are included for first few days to get you started. Using BART and the Buses you can make it to most of the colleges and universities in the SF Bay Area. Schools my students have attended include Stanford, UC Berkeley, Ohlone, California State East Bay CSUEB, and UC San Jose State. I have hosted high school students also however since I have to drive them to school, I'm limited to the high schools around my house. Moreau Catholic High School in Hayward and Fremont Christian School are two of the schools I can easily drive to. I also enjoy "Movie night", two nights a week we watch an American Movie with subtitles and then discuss the plot. We vacuum every other day and have had guests who are allergic to cats stay with us and they have no issues. However, if you're severely allergic to cats this may not be the best fit. I also watch a friend's dogs a few days a week. They are friendly and well-behaved.

We have a great corner bedroom available with 4 large windows so there is lots of light and airflow. We also have an extra large bedroom with a double bed. We are centrally located and walking distance to the beach, shopping, farmers markets, cafes, libraries, great restaurants, wine tasting rooms and micro-brewery pubs. We live in a nice neighborhood, a good community, and it’s very safe. Because Alameda is an island, we have long sandy beaches (10-min walk from our home) with amazing views of San Francisco. Our streets are safe and easy to walk or ride a bike. From our home it’s easy to get anywhere: just 10-minutes away from a Ferry Station, 2 blocks away from bus stop & close to 880 (about 30-mins to San Francisco/10-mins to Oakland). We enjoy doing a lot of outdoor activities with our guests and have enjoyed going sightseeing, on weekends away to the wine country, Monterey and camping in the Sierras (weather permitting). We've taught English and American culture courses in Berkeley and are willing to help international students or professionals with any cultural or language issues you may encounter. We are looking for a kind, respectful, and trustworthy person to rent the converted studio in the back of our house. You will also have access to backyard space. I am a High School PE Teacher and Athletic Director, my wife is an Equity Consultant and Adjunct Faculty focusing on the intersection of arts and social change. We have a 4 year old child who is not yet employed. The studio is super nice (check photos) and the overall property is beautiful. We will be building gardening planter boxes in the front for veggie growing and are down to collaborate on the gardening if you're into it. It's a sweet corner house on a nice block and walking distance to The Laurel for bars, restaurants, cafes, and good vibes. The rent is $1650 plus a flat rate of $50 per month for all utilities (electricity, gas, water, internet), so $1700 is what you'll pay each month and that's it. If you wanted cable TV, you would cover it because we don't have that. We are looking for someone for a long-term rental, but can be flexible if necessary. It is currently furnished (as shown in pictures) but we may be able to be flexible with this. We have a swing, an outdoor couched seating area with a cozy fire pit and a large dining table set up in a romantic outdoor Italian/French bistro-style setting. *** Guest Pantry *** You will have access to a guest pantry in our common area, complete with a drip coffee machine, and a French press with premium Starbucks coffee and teas ready to brew, some creamers, and a hot water kettle. We have a dedicated refrigerator and microwave for guests in the pantry as well. Feel free to use the disposable plates and silverware we have stocked there as well. *** Kitchen - No Access *** We do not allow main kitchen access to our guests to cook full meals by themselves. *** Home Gym *** You are welcome to use our home gym in our garage, with basic exercise equipment. We have weights, and a multi-use resistance machine. Please note that we bear no responsibilities for any injuries that might occur while working out. *** Entry/Exit *** We issue app-based virtual key to the main gate that lets you access the property at any time, and code/fingerprint based access to the front door of the house. *** Footwear Policy *** In the interest of hygiene, please note that we strictly do not allow footwear that is worn outdoors inside the house, so we request guests to leave their footwear at the door. Neither hosts nor guests are allowed to wear footwear inside the house. This helps us keep the cleaning fees low, and the place pristine, benefiting everyone. You are, however encouraged to wear indoor slippers which have never been worn outside the house. *** No pets *** Since hosts are allergic to a variety of animals, no pets of any kind are allowed on the property, with no exceptions. *** No smoking or vaping *** This home is located in a private gated community with upscale homes. The community has a strict no smoking policy within the premises. We therefore prohibit smoking or vaping of any kind inside the home, on the property, as well as within the limits of the private gated community. *** No children under 12 years old *** Please avoid booking this property if you are bringing children under 12 years of age. *** No Visitors or Guests other than those on reservation *** Since this is a private suite in a shared home, we only allow the guests that are on your reservation onto the property. Any visitors or guests other than those on your reservation are strictly not allowed to be on the property for any amount of time. *** No parties/events/loud noises *** Please do not do anything that will result in loud noises and disturbances to the residents of the house or neighbors. These specially include large gatherings, parties and events, irresponsible use of volume on the TV, or any other acts that cause loud sounds and inconvenience to others in the house. *** Unreasonably Frequent and Late Entry and Exits *** We strive to allow 24 hour check-in and check outs and do not impose curfews for guests to enter or exit the home at any point in time. However, entering and exiting the home too frequently (more than 3 times) especially between 10 pm and 7 am will lead to disturbance to hosts, our other guests and neighbors, so we request that you be reasonable with your entry and exits to the home accordingly.
